Council is the governing body for the College of Dental Hygienists of Saskatchewan (CDHS or “College”). As a self-regulating profession, the Council is comprised of up to seven (7) dental hygienists who are appointed (formerly elected) councilors. In addition, there are up to three (3) public representatives who are appointed by the Government of Saskatchewan.
Council is responsible for governing, managing, and regulating the affairs and business of the College, this includes providing strategic direction and oversight in the best interest of the public. Council’s authority stems from The Dental Disciplines Act and operates within the Administrative Bylaws and policies.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: APPOINTMENT PROCESS
Effective May 10, 2025, the Administrative Bylaws have been amended to allow for an appointment process to the Council. The shift from an election-based process allows dental hygienists to express interest in participating on the Council in a less public manner that better aligns with the role of a regulatory body. The appointment process will allow for the recruitment and selection of individuals who have the skills and competencies to complement the collective abilities of the Council.

Council holds at least three (3) meetings per year in addition to the Annual General Meeting. Council meetings are held both in-person and virtually on a date, at a time, and in a location determined by the Council.

Observing Council Meetings
Council may permit observers to attend regularly scheduled business meetings, except for in-camera portions of the meeting. If you are interested in observing a council meeting, please make written request by email to registrar@cdhsk.ca or president@cdhsk.ca. Written requests must be made no later than ten (10) days before the scheduled meeting noted above to be considered. For more information, contact us for the Council’s Policy on Observers.
