Awards

In 1980, the Wascana Institute of Applied Arts & Sciences graduated the first class of dental hygienists in Regina, Saskatchewan. In 1991, the CDHS, formerly SDHA, initiated the “Mary Geddes Memorial Award” for a graduate of the program. Mary Geddes (nee Brett) of Regina, Saskatchewan was the first dental hygienist to register in Canada.

The recipient of this award is chosen by the faculty of Saskatchewan Polytechnic and awarded to a graduate who:

  • demonstrates leadership skills and ethics;
  • is respected by fellow students, clients, and instructors;
  • is considerate, helpful, and reliable;
  • contributes to class unity and team building;
  • is compassionate and empathetic.
